The Me Project: Day 1

16 11 2008

Had to buy new batteries for my scale yesterday. (Here’s a handy tip: don’t store a box of books on top of an electronic scale — it wears out the batteries.) Was dreading actually getting on the thing. Figured I probably weighed 15 more pounds or so more than I did when I last weighed myself on it. But I actually weigh about 15 pounds less than I did when I last weighed myself. So, I’m starting out 30 pounds closer to my goal than I thought I was going to. Sad to say that 30 pounds is just a drop in the bucket.

Now I just need to clean my fridge and buy some real food.

Musique du jour:

Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida”, Cyndi Lauper’s “Into the Nightlife”, and Tokio Hotel’s Scream album

Word of the day:

Scheiße (”shit” in German)
Flows more easily off the tongue than, say, “merde” or my previous choice, “shite”.

Readings: Decided to do a daily card reading during this reclamation process. Today’s deck is the Faeries’ Oracle and a very apropos three-card draw:

Lady of the Harvest – time to accept change and move on

Gloominus Doom (reversed) – points to self-pity that needs to be dealt with

Ffaff the Ffooter (reversed) – come back to earth, or learn to fly properly

Gee. Sounds kind of familiar.

Horoscopes: I’ll also be throwing my daily horoscope (the Jonathan Cainer one at least) into the daily posts. Cainer’s look at my week ahead:

Go gently this week. Do only what’s easy, or what comes naturally, or what feels instinctively right. Keep it simple. If it seems to be complicated, defer it. Or think about it in some other way. And if it’s not your choice because someone is chasing you with trouble in mind, look for a key with which to release a hidden secret. Work on the assumption that a happy, straightforward answer exists. Because it does. But if you are hurrying, worrying or scurrying, you will keep going round the outside of the world that you really want to enter. Relax and allow a doorway to present itself.

They teach lots of subjects at school these days. Even specialist colleges, though, won’t offer a class in ‘How To Worry’. Nobody needs to show us how to feel it. What you need, this week, is a lesson in why you can afford to relax. You won’t get that, though, while you are being perpetually provoked by a problem. Everywhere you turn, you can see something you don’t like the look of. Everyone has an opinion about what you ‘ought’ to be doing and none of those ideas are very smart. Ignorance is bliss – so ignore the so-called experts this week. Ignore your dark misgivings too. Mercury in your opposite sign is your promise of real help, just when you need it most.
