Christmas and Me Are Through

Chuck versus Santa ClausMonday’s episode of Chuck, “Chuck versus Santa Claus”, included a really catchy song at the end that perfectly captured the poignancy of the ending of the episode.

At the time the episode aired, I couldn’t find anything at all about the song. Thankfully, now there is information all over the place. The song is “Christmas and Me Are Through” by Your Vegas. Unfortunately, I can’t find where you can actually get this song — it’s not on their debut album and it isn’t available on Canadian iTunes as a separate download.

Edited to add (December 18): Aha! Found it on thesixtyone.com, where you can either listen to it streaming on the site or you can download it. Presumably the band itself is OK with the MP3 being available for free, since it isn’t available on iTunes or on an actual album. I think that’s positively cool — Live did that with “Overcome” and it probably netted them new fans as a result. I know that I’m likely to buy their album now. (Just haven’t decided to do it via iTunes or actually buy a CD.)

Lyrics (my deepest apologies for the mistakes that I’m sure are in there — I couldn’t make out everything):

Laugh a little louder
Sing a little prouder
See you in the Rose and Crown
We’ll raise a glass to this old town
Home is where the heart is
The end is where the start is
Have a happy holiday
Remember, boy, to smile when you frown
Out by the old church
I can hear them sing
Long live the king

Oh, Santa Claus, Santa Claus
There’s no Christmas here anymore
Put the bells away
Burn the sleigh
Throw the presents out of my door
‘Cos she’s gone, gone
Everything they said was true
Christmas and me are through

Why’d you go and leave me
I guess you didn’t need me
Funny when you did it, hey
I’m all alone on Christmas Day
Wonder where the time goes
Dressing in the same clothes
Funny how the turkey tastes
With lunches from the microwave cold
Down by the old school
I can hear them sing
Love killed the king

Santa Claus, Santa Claus
There’s no Christmas here anymore
Put the bells away
Burn the sleigh
Throw the presents out of my door
‘Cos she’s gone, gone
Everything they said was true
Christmas and me are through
Christmas and me are through
Christmas and me are through

Santa Claus, Santa Claus
There’s no Christmas here anymore
Throw the bells away
Burn the sleigh
Throw the presents out of my door
‘Cos she’s gone, gone
Everything they said was true
Christmas and meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee are through

I’ve been listening to the song on repeat for a couple of hours now — that last “me” is awesome, hanging like that. Good breath control.

  1. Awesome song. Heard it on Chuck, just as you did, found it at thesixtyone.com, downloaded it and have been listening to it 5 to 10 times a day and can’t get it out of my head!!!!! They have another free download called ‘Champion’, which is also a great song. These guys are gonna be big very soon. Thanks for the lyrics, but after listening to them at least a hundred times, I now know them by heart. Trying to figure out the key and chord progression, though. Great stuff. Thanks!!

    • If you click the thesixtyone.com link in the post, you’ll get to a page of Your Vegas music. On the right side of that page is a panel that shows a list of popular Your Vegas tunes — click the “next >>” link under the panel until you see “Christmas and Me Are Through” in the list. There will be a “download” link under the song name. You’ll have to register for a The SixtyOne account to download it but it’s free.

  4. Thank you… I’ve been sat here for hours following links here, there and everywhere to find the song – and keep getting the “not available in the UK” run-around. Now I have it on my iPod, with a reminder to buy it on my PC, should it ever be made available for purchase in the UK. Or, should the extended version of their album be released here (apparently the song is on the extended version of the album…).
One happy nerd, off to watch more Chuck and see what other songs it introduces him to…

  5. updated lyrics – last verse changes to past tense:

    Dear Lord, Dear Lord
    Santa Claus, Santa Claus
    There’s no Christmas here anymore
    Threw the bells away,
    Burned the sleigh
Threw the presents out of my door
    ‘Cos shes gone, gone
    Everything they said was true
    Christmas and meeeeeeeeeeeeee are through

    • I was with you for a second there, until I listened to it again. Some parts sound like they could be past tense, but others, not so much. He tends to sing “throw” so that it sounds like “threw” — it doesn’t sound any different in the last chorus than in the first — and I really can’t hear a past tense “burned”. So I’m inclined to think that the tense doesn’t change in the last chorus. I’m not sure about the “Dear Lord” either. It kind of sounds like he might be saying that once, but not twice. (Could just be a quirk of his singing “accent”, or my ear, and it’s not like I have a better suggestion.)
