Officials brace for greater gridlock

Ottawa Citizen (January 3): Officials brace for greater gridlock

The article is primarily a rehash of the strike and what’s to come, both in terms of when the vote is to take place and what commuters can look forward to. However, the important little bit of information (which also was sent to members of the Make OC Transpo an Essential Service Facebook group mentioned previously) is this:

Ms. Ambrose also ordered board officials to determine what, if any, service the union members must provide during the remainder of the strike.

Labour law allows for the board to order members to provide some service if public health or safety are at risk.

They are asking members of the public to make submissions on the issue. If you would like to do so, the board can be contacted by e-mail at: octranspo-atu@cirb-ccri.gc.ca; by fax at 613-941-4461; by regular mail or by hand at Canada Industrial Relations Board, Regional Director, C.D. Howe Building, 4th Floor West, 240 Sparks St., Ottawa, Ont., K1A 0X8.

So, if the transit strike is risking your health or your safety for any reason, write to them. The more the better.
